The Periscope High Definition Cardioid Microphone Series was originally designed for use as stand-mounted choir microphones. However, when top recording and live sound engineers saw these, they envisioned a whole new world of possibilities. They immediately realized that, with the 4-inch flexible neck and small microphone head, this High Definition Microphone could be positioned or placed where other microphones could not, such as under the strings of an acoustic bass.

They also saw that the microphone body could be placed parallel to the shell of a drum pointing straight up and the microphone could be pointed straight down at the drum head. The Periscope mics also allowed them to mic guitars and other instruments, then reposition the microphone without moving the stand or boom. These mics won instant favor. The Periscope microphones have the same incredible specifications as their respective 30kHz models in Earthworks popular SR and TC Series.

Periscope microphones are available in black or white in omni, cardioid or hypercardioid models. Also available in matched pairs or multiple matched sets. Each microphone is delivered with its own calibration chart providing the individually measured frequency response curve. A mounting clip is included with the microphone.

Earthworks P30 is an omnidirectional (pressure) pre-polarized condenser High Definition Microphone directly coupled to a dedicated wideband, low output impedance preamplifier. The P30 requires a standard 48V phantom power supply. It features an extended linear free-field frequency response from 6Hz to 30kHz, extremely fast impulse response, low self-noise, very low handling noise, uniform polar pattern, and high SPL handling capabilities. It exhibits no proximity effect.

Earthworks P30/C is a directional pre-polarized condenser High Definition Microphone with a first-order cardioid pickup pattern directly coupled to a dedicated wideband, low output impedance transformerless preamplifier. The P30/C requires a standard 48V Phantom Power supply. It features a flat frequency response from 30Hz to 30kHz, fast impulse response, very low handling noise, uniform polar pattern, and high SPL handling capabilities. It provides excellent uncolored rejection of sounds arriving off-axis.
